This report presents a cost analysis of a 20 kta (kilo metric ton per annum) United States-based plant. You can add a customized cost analysis, assuming another location (country), when ordering a premium edition of this report.
Report Abstract
This report analyses the economics of Paracetamol production from p-nitrophenol (PNP) and acetic anhydride. The PNP is then subjected to reduction, producing p-aminophenol (PAP). The PAP is then acetylated to produce Paracetamol. The economic analysis is based on a plant located in the United States.
The report provides a comprehensive study of Paracetamol production and related Paracetamol production cost, covering three key aspects: a complete description of the Paracetamol production process examined; an in-depth analysis of the related Paracetamol plant capital cost (Capex); and an evaluation of the respective Paracetamol plant operating costs (Opex).
The Paracetamol production process description includes a block flow diagram (BFD), an overview of the industrial site installations, detailing both the process unit and the necessary infrastructure, process consumption figures and comprehensive process flow diagrams (PFD). The Paracetamol plant capital cost analysis breaks down the Capex by plant cost (i.e., ISBL, OSBL and Contingency); owner's cost; working capital; and costs incurred during industrial plant commissioning and start-up. The Paracetamol plant operating costs analysis covers operating expenses, including variable costs like raw materials and utilities, and fixed costs such as maintenance, labor, and depreciation.
Process Overview

Product
Paracetamol. Paracetamol (a.k.a. Acetaminophen, APAP, 4-Hydroxyacetanilide, 4-Acetoamidophenol) is a synthetic derivative of p-aminophenol, and has analgesic and antipyretic properties. Harmless at low doses, it has direct hepatotoxic potential when taken as an overdose and can cause acute liver injury and death from acute liver failure.
Raw Materials
Acetic Anhydride. Acetic Anhydride (a.k.a. Ethanoic Anhydride, Acetyl Oxide, Acetic Oxide) is a colorless liquid with an odor that resembles acetic acid. Figuring among the most produced carboxylic acid anhydrides, Acetic Anhydride is a major organic intermediate with an important role in many chemical reactions, like acetylations, production of other acid anhydrides, hydrolysis to produce acetic acid and many others. It is widely used as a solvent for chemical analyses as well.
p-Nitrophenol. p-Nitrophenol is an aromatic compound used as a precursor in the synthesis of dyes, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides. Its strong electrophilic properties make it a key reagent in various chemical reactions. p-Nitrophenol is produced via the nitration of phenol and is stored as a pale yellow crystalline solid. Its ability to act as an indicator in biochemical assays due to its pH sensitivity further expands its use in research and industrial applications.

Other Paracetamol Production Cost Reports
Paracetamol Production from p-Nitrochlorobenzene
This report analyses the economics of Paracetamol production from 4-nitrochlorobenzene and acetic anhydride in the United States. In the process, 4-nitrochlorobenzene reacts with sodium hydroxide producing para nitro phenol (PNP). The PNP is then subjected to reduction, producing para amino phenol (PAP). The PAP is then acetylated to produce Paracetamol.

Paracetamol Production from Nitrobenzene
This report approaches the production of Paracetamol from nitrobenzene and acetic anhydride in the United States. In this process, nitrobenzene is contacted with hydrogen in the presence of dilute sulfuric acid, generating 4-aminophenol (PAP) and aniline by-product. The PAP is then acetylated to produce Paracetamol.
