This study comprises a techno-economic analysis of an industrial process for Synthetic Rutile production from ilmenite in a United States-based facility. In this process, ilmenite is reduced to transform trivalent iron into the divalent form, then the reduced iron is leached with acid, producing Synthetic Rutile.
This report analyses the economics of Synthetic Rutile production from leucoxene in a United States-based facility. In this process, ilmenite is oxidized forming iron(III) oxide. Subsequently, the iron(III) oxide is reduced to its metalic form, which is then separated from the product by aeration and leaching with acid, resulting in Synthetic Rutile.
