ICC - Process Overview Text: <h6>Product</h6> <p><b>Mixed Octenes</b>. The Isononanol production process uses a mixture of octene isomers (molecular formula C8H16). Diverse isomers of octene are known, such as 1-octene, an alpha-olefin used primarily as a comonomer in production of polyethylene (HDPE and LLDPE). Octenes may also be used to alkylate phenols to give precursors to detergents. A mixture of octenes can be produced by different methods, including ethylene growth processes, dimerization of butenes, and polygas process (also starting from C4 hydrocarbons). </p> <h6>Raw Material</h6> <p><b>Butenes</b>. Butene is a versatile olefin used primarily as a comonomer in the production of polyethylene and in the manufacturing of synthetic rubber. It is essential in enhancing the flexibility and toughness of plastic products, such as film and packaging materials. Butene is typically obtained from the refining of crude oil or the cracking of hydrocarbons. It is stored as a gas under pressure and can be transported via pipelines or as liquefied gas in specialized containers.</p>
