Report Abstract
This report presents the economics of Isodecanol production from nonenes in a typical industrial process based on cobalt catalyst. Initially, nonenes are submitted to hydroformylation to form the respectives C10 aldehydes. The aldehydes are then hydrogenated to the corresponding C10 alcohols. The industrial plant is located in the United States.
The report provides a comprehensive study of Isodecanol production and related Isodecanol production cost, covering three key aspects: a complete description of the Isodecanol production process examined; an in-depth analysis of the related Isodecanol plant capital cost (Capex); and an evaluation of the respective Isodecanol plant operating costs (Opex).
The Isodecanol production process description includes a block flow diagram (BFD), an overview of the industrial site installations, detailing both the process unit and the necessary infrastructure, process consumption figures and comprehensive process flow diagrams (PFD). The Isodecanol plant capital cost analysis breaks down the Capex by plant cost (i.e., ISBL, OSBL and Contingency); owner's cost; working capital; and costs incurred during industrial plant commissioning and start-up. The Isodecanol plant operating costs analysis covers operating expenses, including variable costs like raw materials and utilities, and fixed costs such as maintenance, labor, and depreciation.
Process Overview

Product
Isodecanol. Isodecanol (a.k.a. isodecyl alcohol) is a higher aliphatic alcohol. Following esterification with dicarboxylic acids. Isodecanol yield synthetic ester oils with outstanding properties. It is also a starting material for a wide range of derivatives, which are employed as textile auxiliaries, stabilizers, flotation agents, and antifoaming agents, and are used in detergents, lubricants, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and pesticides (esters with 2,4-dichloro- and 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic acid are herbicides). Isodecyl is produced from the oligomerization of propylene and butenes with phosphoric acid, yielding olefins up to C15, which are then hydrated, resulting in a mixture of higher alcohols, including Isodecyl.
Raw Material
Nonenes. Nonenes refers to a group of alkenes with the chemical formula C9H18, which contain nine carbon atoms and at least one double bond. They exist as structural isomers, meaning the atoms can be arranged in various ways, resulting in different forms of nonenes. Nonenes are particularly valuable in the chemical industry for producing plasticizers, surfactants, and detergents.
